¹⁸ Joshua engaged all those kings in battle for a long time. ¹⁹ There was no city that made peace with the children of Israel except the Hivites living in Gibeon. They conquered all of them ²⁰ because the Lord hardened their hearts to engage Israel in battle. They destroyed them without mercy, to put them to death, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
